If you’re in the market for a mechanical gaming keyboard, one of the best wireless options for around $100 is the 8BitDo Retro Mechanical Keyboard. But you can actually get the retro-themed keyboards for even less right now. Woot has both the NES– and Famicom-inspired models on sale for only $60. Both versions come with detachable, oversized buttons called Dual Super Buttons. This is the same unique add-on bundled with the 8BitDo Lite SE, a new accessibility controller for Xbox.
It’s also worth noting that Amazon has the recently released Commodore 64-themed 8BitDo keyboard on sale for $93.49 (was $110). This model has the Dual Super Buttons and a detachable arcade stick, which is certainly unique in the gaming keyboard space.
So what makes these keyboards so great? First, they’re wireless TKL mechanical keyboards with a very durable design, options to use them in a wired mode, and hot-swappable PCB for easy customization without soldering. Like other 8BitDo products, they have a high level of customization through the company’s custom software for the price point. The included Dual Super buttons on a separate gamepad are also great, as you can map different functions to them.
If you’d like to pair a numpad with this and do your taxes, 8BitDo recently launched an official mechanical numpad attachment. Priced at $45, it can easily pair with your keyboard or you can switch it to calculator mode and marvel at the cool red LED display on it.
