Sometimes there is nothing as painful and joyful as being pummeled to death by a tough boss. Since its early access release on Monday, players of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero have been flocking to social media to share memes and commiserate about how hard the Great Ape Vegeta boss fight is.
The Great Ape is a special form that the Saiyans of Universe 7 can transform into given the right conditions. Basically, it transforms an already OP and seasoned fighter like Vegeta into an all-powerful gorilla Kaiju. It definitely looks impressive in the show, but now the form is so powerful that it’s inspired memes and jokes about how difficult it is to beat in the game. The boss fight started trending on X Tuesday evening with more than 26,000 posts about it.
My colleague who won the fight said that the Great Ape can kill players pretty fast since his beam attacks deal so much damage and he has a grab attack that comes out really quickly, interrupting any attempts to mash out basic attacks.
It’s not impossible to beat the Great Ape, but it makes for a pretty tough challenge for an early-game boss. Now, people are taking moments from other TV series like Bleach, Jujutsu Kaisen, and even Dragon Ball clips to describe what it’s like to fight the monstrosity. You can view the gags below.
Other people have posted to share screenshots and simply shout at the world about how difficult the fight is. One X user said, “Great Ape Vegeta had me losing my mind,” and shared a Shrek meme to accompany the plea. As for how to actually overcome the fight, publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment has one suggestion: Just lower the difficulty and retry. Even then, there’s no guarantee, but hey, a win is a win.
