Tenets of Akarat are the contemporary of the Altars of Lilith in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred’s new Nahantu region. Like the Altars of Lilith, you’ll need to find a majority of these to fully upgrade your reputation in the game’s new region — netting you some much-needed Paragon and skill points. However, unlike the Altars, the new Tenets of Akarat ask you to solve a little puzzle in order to claim them. They also don’t give any permanent stat boosts like the Altars of Lilith do.
In this Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred guide, we’ll walk you through where you can find all 30 Tenets of Akarat in Diablo 4’s first expansion, and how you can solve the four different puzzles that can appear for them.
Tenets of Akarat differ from Altars of Lilith in a few ways, but the biggest difference is that you can’t just walk up and claim them. Instead, you’ll need to free the Tenets from Mephisto’s black ichor. To do this, you’ll need to solve one of four puzzles:
Activating all three statues is the most common puzzle. The idea here is that you need to find all three of the lion statues near the Tenet and activate them all before they start to snuff out. You have a pretty generous window to complete this, so just try to locate all three statues first (they’re all within an evade’s distance or two) and plot your route. Once you activate all three, you’ll free it from the Ichor.
Sometimes when you approach a Tenet, you’ll see a bunch of little golden orbs appear after you kill all the enemies in the area. This means you need to attack the Tenet itself. Approach the Tenet and give it a hit with your basic skill. If a health bar appears, keep attacking until you free it.
Some Tenets have a single, red lion statue near them. When you activate the lion, a bunch of Shades of Hatred will pop out. Kill these wolves to free the Tenet of Akarat.
The final Tenet puzzle can be the hardest to spot. Some Tenets will have three lion statues in the background of the map — somewhere you can’t reach — and they’ll be lit up in a specific order (like only the right one, or right and middle). Approach the Tenet and the nearby lion statues that you can reach and activate them to match the lit-up statues in the background.
The Five Hills gives us our first five Tenets of Akarat, which you can find exact locations for below.
Just south of Kurast, in the lower district, you’ll find a Tenet hiding inside of a dilapidated building.
Clear the area of enemies and then attack the black ichor to free the Tenet.
In the middle of the Five Hills zone, west of the Putrescent Larder dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet in a creek.
Activate the red statue to unleash Shades of Hatred. Defeat all of the wolves to free the Tenet.
East of the Feeding Grounds dungeon, in the southeastern corner of the Five Hills, you’ll find a Tenet stuck in an old ruin.
Find all three lion statues near the Tenet and activate them all before time runs out.
On the western edge of the Five Hills, you’ll find a Tenet sitting on the edge of the water by some trees, touching the ocean.
Look for the lit-up lion statues in the background, behind the Tenet. Activate the matching nearby lion statues to free the Tenet.
East of the Samuk Waypoint, you’ll find the final Five Hills Tenet hidden in some dense brush and overlooking a pit.

The Seven Stones gives us our second set of five Tenets of Akarat, which you can find exact locations for below.
Northeast of the Razak’s Descent dungeon in Seven Stones, you’ll find a Tenet at the north end of a cave.

Northeast of the Samuk Waypoint, you’ll find a Tenet sitting next to a small waterfall in the jungle.
Look for the lit-up lion statues in the background, behind the Tenet. Activate the matching nearby lion statues to free the Tenet.
Just south of the Chakir mini-zone Stronghold, you’ll find a ruin with a Tenet inside of it.
Find all three lion statues near the Tenet and activate them all before time runs out.
Near the northernmost point of the Seven Stones, you’ll find a Tenet among the vines and rocks.
Activate the red statue to unleash Shades of Hatred. Defeat all of the wolves to free the Tenet.
Northwest of the Murmuring Spiral dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet overlooking a large pit, resting under some vines.
Clear the area of enemies and then attack the black ichor to free the Tenet.
The Lingering Hatred gives us our third set of five Tenets of Akarat, which you can find exact locations for below.
Just east of the Remnants of Rage dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet resting against a massive tree.
Look for the lit-up lion statues in the background, behind the Tenet. Activate the matching nearby lion statues to free the Tenet.
Southeast of the Kurast Docks town, you’ll find a Tenet sitting against some Hatred Ichor that’s growing out of the ground.
Activate the red statue to unleash Shades of Hatred. Defeat all of the wolves to free the Tenet.
Northeast of the Kurast Bazaar Waypoint, you’ll find a Tenet resting under some leaves and the body of a large tree.
Clear the area of enemies and then attack the black ichor to free the Tenet.
Just east of the Forge of Malice dungeon in the Lingering Hatred, you’ll find a Tenet resting against some roots.
Find all three lion statues near the Tenet and activate them all before time runs out.
To the west of The Den, you’ll find a Tenet of Akarat sitting next to a tree that’s fallen over in the jungle.
Find all three lion statues near the Tenet and activate them all before time runs out.
The Teganze Plateau gives us our fourth set of five Tenets of Akarat, which you can find exact locations for below.
Just north of the Sleepless Hollow dungeon in Teganze Plateau, you’ll find a Tenet and its statues resting in the water by some cliffs.
Clear the area of enemies and then attack the black ichor to free the Tenet.
East of the Sleepless Hollow dungeon, you’ll see a Tenet sitting next to a cliff.
Find all three lion statues near the Tenet and activate them all before time runs out.
West of the Kichuk Waypoint, at the bottom of a mountain, you’ll find a Tenet and its statue sitting in a river by some brush.
Activate the red statue to unleash Shades of Hatred. Defeat all of the wolves to free the Tenet.
East of the Farai Cliffs dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet resting on the side of a cliff overlooking some other statues.
Look for the lit-up lion statues in the background, behind the Tenet. Activate the matching nearby lion statues to free the Tenet.
On the far east of Teganze Plateau, northeast of The Cauldron zone, you’ll find a climbable surface that leads to a Tenet.

The Field of Giants gives us our fifth set of five Tenets of Akarat, which you can find exact locations for below.
West of the Ruined Wild dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet resting in a swamp.

Southeast of the Forgotten Remains dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet resting next to the rib cage of a dead demon.
Look for the lit-up lion statues in the background, behind the Tenet. Activate the matching nearby lion statues to free the Tenet.
Southwest of the Forgotten Remains dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet tucked into a corner near some bones.

Just northeast of Ichorfall, you’ll find a Tenet resting in a sickly green river, near a waterfall.
Clear the area of enemies and then attack the black ichor to free the Tenet.
Southeast of the Beast Graveyard dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet near a cliff, resting on some grass.
Activate the red statue to unleash Shades of Hatred. Defeat all of the wolves to free the Tenet.
The Restless Canopy gives us our final set of five Tenets of Akarat, which you can find exact locations for below.
East of the Viz-Jun mini-zone, you’ll find a Tenet resting near some old demon bones.
Find all three lion statues near the Tenet and activate them all before time runs out.
South of the Vile Hive dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet and its statues resting near some luminescent plants.
Find all three lion statues near the Tenet and activate them all before time runs out.
Directly north of the Betrayed Tomb dungeon, you’ll find a Tenet overlooking a cliff and some statues below.
Look for the lit-up lion statues in the background, behind the Tenet. Activate the matching nearby lion statues to free the Tenet.
West of the Ularian Sepulcher dungeon, you’ll find a tenet inside a little man-made structure.
Activate the red statue to unleash Shades of Hatred. Defeat all of the wolves to free the Tenet.
East of the Kurast and south of the Hallowed Stones dungeon, you’ll find the last Tenet resting inside the roots of a massive tree.
Clear the area of enemies and then attack the black ichor to free the Tenet.
