Animal Crossing Fans Will Want To Keep An Eye On This Adorable Life Sim Set In The Clouds

Looking for a new game to scratch that Animal Crossing itch? Then you’re in luck, as a very promising (and completely adorable) new title is now in the works. Announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live, Floatopia is an upcoming farming/life sim that sees players start a new, superpower-filled life in the clouds and features charming, Animal Crossing-esque visuals. You can check out some images of the game below.

Billed as “a whimsical world filled with toys, travel, superpowers, and floating islands,” Floatopia is the next game from developer NetEase. The studio stated that the game will feature farming, fishing, logging, and home decorating, as well as plenty of magical powers and world customization. When not tending to their homestead, players will get the chance to travel to other realms inspired by “diverse cultures.” According to NetEase, these islands will feature “mountaintop cities, ancient towns, deserts, frozen expanses, whimsical fairy-tale kingdoms, and culinary paradises.”

In the official Floatopia press release, the studio delved into the overall themes, writing:

“Imagine a world where superpowers are just a phone call away. In this fantastical realm, the most sought-after superpowers are quickly reserved, leaving only the seemingly ‘useless’ powers behind. You play a character who, by a twist of fate, joins forces with others possessing these overlooked superpowers.

“As the main storyline unfolds, you gradually uncover the truth of the world and the meaning of your travels—’usefulness’ is not the only measure of value. Every seemingly ‘useless’ ability has its own unique worth and hidden potential.”

Those who preregister to play the game will be given a Special Island Gift Pack, which includes a new costume, seesaw, and more. Floatopia is scheduled to release on PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025.
