Assassin’s Creed Mirage Review Roundup

After a three-year hiatus, Ubisoft’s storied stealth-action franchise returns with Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which follows a young Assassin named Basim as he navigates the dangerous streets of Baghdad’s golden age. With the game set to launch on October 5, reviews have begun to surface online.

Ubisoft Bordeaux assumed the lead studio role for this Assassin’s Creed installment, as they followed Ubisoft Montreal’s stint as lead with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In fact, Mirage was originally intended to be a downloadable expansion for Valhalla before being turned into a standalone entry in the series.

GameSpot’s 6/10 Assassin’s Creed Mirage review said the game “does get back to the basics that first defined the series by refocusing on social stealth and making it fun to learn about a city’s history, but a weak cast of characters keeps it from reaching the same heights as some of its earliest predecessors.”

You can see a selection of review scores and excerpts from around the internet below. For more Assassin’s Creed Mirage reactions, you can check out GameSpot sister site Metacritic.

GameSpot– 6/10

“Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a true prequel to Valhalla, only able to tell a compelling narrative arc for Basim with the knowledge of what he becomes later in life.” — Jordan Ramee [Full review]

The Loadout — 9/10

“I knew who Basim was going to become heading into Mirage, having finished Valhalla, but I still found myself genuinely surprised – and shocked – about what happens. This is one of the most engaging narratives I have experienced in a long time, since games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Ghost of Tsushima.” — Kyle Wilson [Full review]

GamesRadar — 4/5

“Ubisoft Bordeaux has delivered exactly what it promised. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a compact, stealth-focused adventure that punishes anyone trying to go in loud, and it does so in a world that’s always a delight to explore (and be chased through).” — Sam Loveridge [Full review]

VGC — 4/5

“Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s greatest strength is the willingness to cut all the fat and focus on delivering a game that feels in many ways like a remake of an Assassin’s Creed game from 2010. ” — Jordan Middler [Full review]

IGN — 8/10

“Assassin’s Creed Mirage takes a lot of important, imperfect steps to get back to its roots, and though that means as it does no particular thing that hasn’t been done before, the focus and commitment to briskly paced missions and stealth-heavy exploration scratches an itch that the RPG-based entries couldn’t reach.” — Jarrett Green [Full review]

Game Informer — 8/10

“Concerns about the conclusion aside, I still had a wonderful time in Baghdad’s ancient alleys and palaces. Not everything is perfect, but the “less is more” design philosophy goes a long way to making this one of the most consistently engaging titles within the series for some time.” — Matt Miller [Full review]

TheGamer — 3/5

“Playing on nostalgia is only worthwhile if you’re making it better than what came before, but Assassin’s Creed Mirage is too busy fawning over the Ezio trilogy to notice just how aged it’s become.” — Joe Parlock [Full review]
