Baldur’s Gate 3 Adds DICE Game Of The Year Award To Its Trophy Case

The 27th annual DICE Awards were presented last night by the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. While the winner of the top prize is no surprise, it was another standout 2023 game that took home the most trophies.

Baldur’s Gate 3 took home the Game Of The Year award at the end of the night, as it overcame fellow nominees Alan Wake 2, Cocoon, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Larian Studios director of publishing Michael Douse and head of production David Walgrave spoke after the announcement was made, where they acknowledged the multiple layoffs throughout the industry.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, meanwhile, took home six total awards, which included Action Game Of The Year and Outstanding Achievement in Animation. The six wins were the most for any single game on the night, with Baldur’s Gate 3 in second place with five awards.

The awards ceremony also honored longtime Nintendo music composer Koji Kondo as the newest member of the DICE Hall Of Fame. Kondo received the honor in-person, with Brian Tyler–composer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie–presenting the award.
