Baldur’s Gate 3 Physical Deluxe Edition Announced, And It Has A “F*** Ton Of Discs”

Baldur’s Gate 3 will receive a physical deluxe edition, developer Larian Studios has announced, with preorders currently live via Larian’s dedicated online store. The deluxe edition is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2024 and is $80.

If you’re a fan of discs, the deluxe edition of Larian’s hit RPG is for you. Baldur’s Gate 3 will ship on two discs for PlayStation 5 owners, while the Xbox version will be on three discs. The PC version, on the other hand, will include DVD with a custom game installer and additionally includes a CD key for the Steam version.

“We understand the value of physical media, and while there are clearly increasingly significant challenges when it comes to the archiving of games, we truly believe it’s worth experimenting, even if it means a f*** ton of discs,” Larian’s director of publishing Michael Douse said in a press release.

The game itself isn’t the only thing included on discs in the deluxe edition. It also includes the Baldur’s Gate 3 soundtrack on three CDs, alongside other real-world goodies like a cloth map, two patches, 32 stickers, a poster prominently featuring one of the game’s Mind Flayers, and a game box designed in the style of the boxes for Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2.

Larian notes that the deluxe edition of Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t a “collector’s edition” and will be restocked, so fans don’t need to worry if the initial batch of deluxe editions sell out.

All the physical goodies included in the new Baldur’s Gate 3 deluxe edition.

Though the deluxe edition is filled with physical items, there’s plenty of in-game goodies included with the edition as well. Those who purchase the Baldur’s Gate 3 physical deluxe edition will receive all of the game’s currently existing digital deluxe edition content, including a digital soundtrack, artbook, and character sheets alongside in-game items like an exclusive dice skin, the Divinity item pack, Paintings from Rivellon, an Adventurer’s pouch, and the Bard song pack.

Baldur’s Gate 3 released on PC in August and on PS5 in September after years of early access. It was recently nominated for eight awards at The Game Awards 2023, including Best RPG, Best Narrative, and Game of the Year. Larian has stated it will be officially announcing the release date of the digital Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 as part of the award show on December 7.

Baldur’s Gate 3 didn’t initially launch on Xbox due to Larian being unable to get the game’s split-screen co-op feature to work to its satisfaction on Xbox Series S consoles, with the feature eventually being dropped for Series S. The Xbox Series X version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will support split-screen co-op, and it’s possible the feature could be added to the Series S version via an update in the future.
