Classic Devil May Cry Games Have Been “Retired” On Steam

Devil May Cry fans looking to experience two of the older games in their original release format are out of luck, as Devil May Cry 3 and 4 have been removed from the Steam marketplace. Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition and Devil May Cry 4 are no longer available for purchase on the digital marketplace, but they are still available in other editions as the threequel is included in the HD Collection. Meanwhile, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition is still up for sale, alongside Devil May Cry 5 and Ninja Theory’s underrated DmC: Devil May Cry.

As for why Capcom has taken down the two DMC games, the Steam Database (via PCGamesN) revealed that both games had been updated with a publisher request to be “retired” from the storefront. Other online sites like Green Man Gaming and Humble are still offering keys for these titles, although it’s likely that they’ll be sold out soon.

The removal of these Devil May Cry games comes shortly after another beloved classic, Spec Ops: The Line, disappeared from Steam and other marketplaces. “Several partnership licenses related to the game” expired according to publisher 2K Games, leading to it being delisted.

Spec Ops director Cory Davis, remains optimistic about the future of the game. “Devastating personally, but also for those who poured their souls into its creation alongside me as developers, and for the gaming community at large. This is not the end for Spec Ops: The Line,” Davis tweeted.

As for Devil May Cry, it may be a bit longer before we see the franchise again. Longtime director Hideaki Itsuno is currently putting the finishing touches on Dragon’s Dogma 2. His previous game, Devil May Cry 5, released in 2019.
