Destiny 2’s Most Annoying Emote Is Available For Bright Dust This Week

Destiny 2 is no stranger to emotes based on internet memes and pop culture nostalgia. You can make use of Rick Astley’s moves from the classic music video, “Never Gonna Give You Up.” You can become an approximation of Alfonso Ribeiro doing his incredible Carlton Dance from the Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire. You can buy an emote that lets you pop a chair and sit down like that meme of Jason Momoa popping a chair and sitting down. And now you can snag the Cat Ear Dance emote with the currency you earn simply for playing the game–allowing the most annoying Destiny 2 emote to spread even further.

You’ve probably seen the Cat Ear Dance around, but up until now, most players nabbed it with Silver, Destiny 2’s real-money currency. This week, however, you can pick up the Cat Ear Dance for a mere 700 Bright Dust, which is a relatively paltry sum that you can rack up for completing bounties and knocking out weekly challenges. If that’s something you want.

Ugh.

The Cat Ear Dance, however, is an incredibly irritating emote for reasons science has yet to understand. In spite of this, or likely because of it, the emote has spread like wildfire throughout the community. If you’ve seen it around and struggled to understand its origins, look no further than the music video for “Caramelladansen,” a song by the Caramella Girls, a fictional pop band.

The video sprung forth from the Caramella Girls YouTube channel on the day of the channel’s creation back in 2008, and it’s just…this. The Cat Ear Dance. For like three whole minutes. But it was a weird thing on the internet in 2008, so it’s now seared into the minds of an entire generation. And those people play Destiny 2, apparently.

So there you go. If you want an extremely frustrating emote to use on the kill cams of your Crucible enemies or if you want to celebrate defeating Atheon by invoking an animated pop band’s heyday, you can now do so on the cheap. Just make sure to grab it before the weekly reset at 9 AM PT / noon ET on Tuesday, December 7. Use your power responsibly.
