Publisher Arc System Works and developer Yuke’s have announced Double Dragon Revive, the next entry in the Double Dragon series. It is due out sometime in 2025 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The game is a 3D revival of the series that debuted in 1987, so it’s unclear right now whether this is a remake of a previous title or a completely brand-new adventure. Protagonists Billy and Jimmy Lee return, as well as enemies Roper and Abobo.
Players will be able to pick up weapons scattered throughout stages and use their surroundings to pull off gimmicks. The game’s development is being overseen by a staff with experience on previous Arc System Works fighting game titles and is aiming to bring the series to the modern area with refined controls.
Double Dragon is traditionally a 2D beat-’em-up series, and Revive looks to be keeping the 2D side-scrolling aspect while implementing 3D character models and environments. Arc System Works has been bringing the series back recently. Last year, the developer ported Double Dragon Advance and Super Double Dragon to modern platforms, as well as released a new game called Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons.
