Dragon’s Dogma 2 – How To Beat Medusa

You’ll encounter monstrous creatures in Dragon’s Dogma 2. One of them is a popular figure from Greek Mythology, and you want to be careful if she has her eyes on you. Here’s our guide on how to find and defeat Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You can also obtain her head as an additional reward.

How to defeat Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To be clear, you do fight Medusa just after starting the campaign. However, you can find another one much later.

Where to find Medusa’s lair

The Dragon’s Dogma 2 Medusa has a lair in the Caliginous Depths, a cave that’s well to the southeast of Bakbattahl. Instead of going on foot, we suggest riding the Ropeway from Bakbattahl to the Central Ropeway Station. Then, take the vehicle that follows the cable to the south. From there, follow the winding road to the jungle. You should see several petrified figures of people and animals that serve as a warning to would-be interlopers.

Medusa’s abilities

Medusa only has a couple of notable abilities:

  • Arrow Shot – Fires several arrows in succession. These cause a small explosion upon hitting the ground.
  • Petrifying Gaze – Once her eyes flash red, a wide beam will shoot out as she slithers around the cavern (i.e. almost like a searchlight). Characters that stand within the beam’s radius as slowed down before being turned to stone.

Since Medusa moves slowly, it’s easy to avoid her attacks. We also suggest climbing on the back of her head and striking her neck, as this is her weak spot. Note that she often wiggles her head like a model for Rejoice shampoo, so you might get thrown away.

How to get the Medusa Head

To get the Medusa Head in Dragon’s Dogma 2, ensure you’re always hitting her weak spot/the back of her neck. Most of the damage and the killing blow should come from these strikes. Upon finishing her off, you’ll also decapitate her, allowing you to pick up her head as a prize.

Note that the Medusa Head is a special item you can equip on your belt buckle (similar to a lantern). You can also raise it and activate its petrifying glare, which should work on enemies. However, be forewarned that decay-over-time does apply if it’s in your inventory (even if you don’t activate the gaze). As such, it might be better to leave it in your storage if you don’t need it.

Showing off your fashion sense will stop people in their tracks.

These are the items that you can receive apart from the Medusa Head:

  • Granite Medusa Bone material
  • Medusan Spellbow – This is an Archer weapon.
  • Hood of Nonentity – Found in a small section at the back of the cavern.

That’s it; that’s how you defeat Medusa in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Since you’re already in the area, you might as well head farther southeast to Dragonsbreath Tower. That’s where you may find an NPC named Sigurd, who teaches you the Mystic Spearhand class. It’s one of several unlockable vocations in the game.

Fierce foes and loyal companions await you as you journey onward in Dragon’s Dogma 2. For other tips and strategies, you can visit our guides hub.
