About 10 to 15 years ago, Capcom entered a lull. Resident Evil 6 was critically panned, Lost Planet 3 was released to largely negative reviews, and as a result, the studio’s reputation took a small hit. Recently, however, things have changed.
With well received Resident Evil remakes, strong numbers on Street Fighter and Monster Hunter, and success with rolling the dice on new ideas like Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess, Capcom is undeniably having a moment. And, with a plethora of new titles on the way such as the highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, and Resident Evil 9, we don’t see the publisher’s winning streak ending anytime soon.
This week on Spot On, Tam and Lucy shower some much deserved praise on the iconic studio and discuss what they hope to see from it in the future. Will we get another Marvel vs. Capcom? Can the publisher find a way to make mobile games work for them? Let’s chat about it.
Spot On is GameSpot’s weekly news show in which managing editor Tamoor Hussain and senior producer Lucy James talk about the latest game news. Given the massive video game industry’s highly dynamic and never-ending news cycle, there’s always something to talk about. Unlike most news shows, Spot On will dive deep into a single topic instead of recapping all the news. Spot On airs each Friday.
