It sounds as if the sands in the hourglass have run out for a sequel to the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Ubisoft has decided to move a majority of the team who worked on the metroidvania title to “other projects” at the company.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown senior producer Abdelhak Elguess issued a statement to GameSpot confirming that the game’s team is no longer together. “Most of the team members who worked on Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown have shifted to other projects that will benefit from their expertise,” Elguess said. “We know players have a love for this brand, and Ubisoft is excited to bring more Prince of Persia experiences in the future.”

A critical darling when it launched in January, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown received story DLC just last month called Mask of Darkness. Elguess noted that the game is “now at the end of its post-launch roadmap with three free content updates and one DLC.”

On top of rave reviews, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown has a feature that every metroidvania should steal going forward. Memory Shards in the title let players take a picture that is then pinned to the map, making it easier to recall areas to revisit once the right powers are acquired. Aspects like this are why Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is one of the 31 best Steam Deck games out now.

The Lost Crown wasn’t the only game in the Prince of Persia franchise to come out this year. In May, Ubisoft also released The Rogue Prince of Persia from developer Evil Empire. It’s still in Steam Early Access and unavailable on consoles so far.
