Pokémon Go Halloween 2024 Part 1 event guide

Halloween 2024 is a two-part event in Pokémon Go, with the first half — Part 1 — offering suitably spooky wild encounters, raid line-ups, and Field Research.

Running from Tuesday, Oct. 22, through Monday, Oct. 29, at 10 a.m. local time, the headline is the debut of Morpeko — the game’s first Pokémon with the ability to change form mid-battle.

Elsewhere, there are two sets of paid Timed Research you can pay to unlock — “Costume Party” and “Morpeko Onesie” — the latter offering a branching story and a triple catch Candy bonus, alongside a variety of costumed Pokémon encounters which can be found in both tickets.

Meanwhile, for all players, there’s the annual return of Spiritomb in the “Spiritomb Challenge” Timed Research. All in all, there’s plenty for free and paying players to sink their teeth into!

‘Halloween Part 1’ Field Research Tasks

You will encounter the following Field Research from spinning PokéStops. Though they can only be collected during event hours, you can keep them in your quest log and complete them at any time after the event ends:

  • Evolve 3 Dark-type Pokemon (Sableye or Scraggy encounter)
  • Evolve 3 Ghost-type Pokemon (Golett or Grevard encounter)
  • Win 2 Raids (Morpeko encounter)
  • Win 3 Raids (Spiritomb encounter)
  • Catch 10 Ghost- or Dark-type Pokemon (Nymble or Sandygast encounter)
  • Catch 15 Ghost- or Dark-type Pokemon (25 Mega Energy for Absol, Banette, Gengar, Houndoom, or Sableye)

Thanks to Leekduck for filling in the gaps with the above Field Research tasks.

‘Halloween Part 1’ event bonuses

The “Halloween Part 1” event runs between Thursday, Oct. 19, to Thursday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. local time.

As well as the above changes to spawns and Field Research, the following bonuses and changes are also in effect until the event ends:

  • Double catch Candy, which can be upgraded to triple catch Candy with the purchase of “Morpeko Onesie” Timed Research.
  • Increased chance of Candy XL for Nice Throws or better (for level 31 trainers and up only).
  • Increased chance of finding shiny Zorua (in the wild) and shiny Umbreon (in raids — a useful way to get the dark-type Eevee evolution).
  • The in-game map will have a Halloween makeover, with PokéStops adorned with pumpkins, and orange leaves coating green spaces and parks.
  • New Avatar items are available in the shop, including “Halloween Finery,” a Woobat Top Hat, and two Morpeko onesies. (See the above image for how it looks in-game.)
  • Music inspired by Lavender Town playing in-game throughout the event. If you prefer not to turn on your in-game audio, here’s a preview.

And if you were wondering, yes, there is a “Part 2” — and it begins as soon as “Part 1” ends on Monday, Oct. 28.
