Developer Sabotage Studio is “speechless” after Sea of Stars sold over 100,000 copies on the game’s launch day. That number is also impressive because the retro RPG is included in two prominent games subscription catalogs.
On Twitter/X, the official Sea of Stars account announced the sales milestone and thanked fans for the strong start. Keep in mind the RPG is available as a day-one release on PlayStation Plus for Extra and Premium subscribers as well as part of a recent wave of August titles for Xbox Game Pass.
Sea of Stars was originally announced in 2020 and launched with a Kickstarter campaign. The turn-based RPG comes from the same team behind The Messenger, a retro game that took inspiration from Ninja Gaiden and Super Metroid. In fact, Sea of Stars serves as a prequel to The Messenger even though they’re in very different genres.
Reviews for Sea of Stars have been extremely positive, with writers pointing out similarities to classic RPGs like Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia, and Super Mario RPG. That’s not shabby company to keep.
Costing $35, Sea of Stars is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The RPG follows Children of the Solstice–Valerie and Zale–who must work together to fight The Fleshmancer.
