Switch 2? EA CEO Says He Can’t Comment But Here’s What He Did Say

During EA’s latest quarterly earnings briefing, EA CEO Andrew Wilson was asked for his thoughts on the new Nintendo console that we’ve heard many rumors about. Wilson refused to comment on an unannounced product, nor could he even acknowledge anything pertaining to it. However, Wilson did offer a high-level breakdown of how new and more powerful systems, over the years, have helped improve EA’s business.

“To the extent that platforms over the course of the last 20 years have come out and offered improved CPU, GPU, memory, battery life, screen resolution–to the extent those things have happened–where we’re able to deliver more immersion for our players, particularly around our biggest franchises like FC, like Madden, like Battlefield, like Apex that has typically been very good for our business,” Wilson said.

Wilson went on to say that when people can “experience” EA’s games “at the highest level” in terms of graphics and fidelity, that has “typically worked out very well for us.”

“And so without commenting at all on anything around Nintendo or the Switch, I would just say new platforms are good for us,” Wilson said. “Where new platforms offer improved CPU, GPU, memory, battery life, screen resolution that typically is a plus for our particular portfolio of games and the community that plays them.”

EA is in the business for making games for other companies’ platforms, as it does not have its own console or device, so it’s natural to expect the company to be hyped about a future product release. It seems likely that if Nintendo is indeed working on a new console, and it’s coming out this year as rumors suggest, then EA would likely have knowledge about it. However, as Wilson said, he can’t comment or discuss anything at this point.

The latest rumor is that the Switch 2, or whatever it might be called, will have an 8-inch LCD screen and release this year. For more, be sure to check out GameSpot’s rundown of everything we know about the Switch 2.
