It’s been over a decade since the American version of The Office came to an end, but fans have continuously made it one of the most popular comedy series available to stream. Now, Meta and NBCUniversal are offering players a chance to become the latest employees of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton office in a new VR game, The Office World.

The Office World will be available on the Meta Horizon platform, and it lets players pick their desks at Dunder Mifflin before giving them minigames that were inspired by the show’s nine-season run. The minigames and the office itself will also reference some of the show’s best gags, including Kevin Malone’s ill-fated chili and Dwight Schrute’s stapler encased in Jello. Speaking of Dwight, players can earn Schrute Bucks to customize their desks and buy items from the company’s vending machine.

However, the game seems to be missing one of the key aspects that made The Office so entertaining: the characters. Viewers weren’t watching the show just to see a wacky workplace comedy; they came because they loved the ensemble cast and the characters they were portraying. It would be hard for any game to recapture that, but The Office World does allow players to watch episodes of The Office through the Peacock app on Meta Quest. That will have to be enough for anyone who wants their fix of the show.

Meta Horizon will launch The Office World on October 10. Meanwhile, the first trailer for the Australian version of The Office recently debuted. Peacock has also ordered an Office follow-up series called The Paper, which may debut as soon as 2025.
